World Oceans Day 2019: Our Big Island Team Dives to Clean Up the Ocean

World Oceans Day has become one of the most fun and rewarding days of the year at Liquid Robotics. As an ocean robot maker with roots on the Big Island of Hawai’i, it’s important to us to be a part of this global celebration with hundreds of events around the world aimed at protecting and conserving our world’s oceans.

This year our Hawai’i team targeted Hapuna Beach State Park. Our team has several free divers who took to the waters to dive and remove trash and harmful mooring and fishing lines entangled in the coral. Some of this year’s findings include: a golf ball, traffic cone, sunglasses, swim fins, discarded mooring line, tangled fishing line and a quadcopter propeller blade.

Over the years our team has bonded with some of the other organizations who also regularly participate in the education and cleanup, and this year was no exception. Our Liquid Robotics booth was part of a great gathering of many local ocean and conservation related groups, and we had a great time discussing Wave Gliders with the community and learning what other teams are doing to help our oceans.

Together, we made a meaningful contribution and had fun along the way. Until next year!
